SIDBI Innovation & Incubation Centre (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur was set up in collaboration with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to foster innovation, research and entrepreneurial activities in technology related areas.



SIIC was established in 2000 with the vision of transforming knowledge into wealth with the following objectives:

  • To create a generation of zealous entrepreneurs.
  • To convert novel research into valuable intellectual property.


SIIC offers a whole range of incubation facilities and services to budding entrepreneurs to help them convert their innovative ideas into commericially viable products. It ventures in technology, engineering etc. organising regular events like entrepreneurial talk seroes, workshops and seminars. In 2011, SIIC was awarded the National Award for Technology Business Incubators.


SIIC acts as a Technology Transfer Office of the Institute and provides professional aid to the IIT Kanpur Faculty and students for filing patents and copyrights. So far, 242 patents have been filed.

Incubator policies and procedure

The goal of SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Center (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur is to promote technology based entrepreneurship and thereby facilitate practical application of knowledge for public use. SIIC, IITK wishes to facilitate the creation of ideas and inventions that benefit society. To this end, SIIC, IITK has adopted this Incubation Policy to provide guidance and management structure to facilitate development of entrepreneurship.


The scope of this document is to define the policies and procedures for the operational matters related to the SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Center, IIT Kanpur. It covers the following processes:

  3. Infrastructure and Services provided to Incubatees
  4. Mandatory Mentorship
  5. Period of Incubation/ Exit

The policy is subject to periodical review and amendments. It will be the responsibility of the companies admitted to SIIC to update themselves from time to time on amendments in the Incubation policy and procedures.

IIT Kanpur reserves the rights to make an exception of all or any of the terms of policy for a particular company or a promoter on a case to case basis.
