Volley is one of the most popular sport among the campus population.Almost everyone- students, faculty, staff and event institute teams of other sports play volleyball for recreation.

Facilities

IIT Kanpur provides excellent facilities for volleyball enthusiasts with 3 outdoor floodlit courts in old sports complex and a indoor wooden court in new sports complex.Apart from these there is a "Practice Wall" for beginners. The courts are open from 6am to 9pm on all days except Sundays.Balls and non marking shoes can be issued to a student for his/her ID card at the New Sports Complex and Old Sports Complex reception.Apart from this, almost every hall of residence also has outdoor volleyball courts and students can issue required equipments from the Sports secretaries of the HEC of the hall.


Institute Team

The Institute Volleyball team is a part of the sports contigent of IIT Kanpur. At present there about 15 boys and 12 girls in the team out of which 11 boys and 11 girls represent the institute in various sports events like Udghosh, Sangram, SporTech and the Inter IIT Sports Meet.The team is coached by Mr. Amit Doharey. Current captain of boys team is V.R.S Sandilya and of girls team is Chethna Anand.



Performance and achievements

The institute badminton team is one of the strongest teams in the IIT Kanpur sports contingent with consistent performance over the past few years. Most notable achievements have been:

  • Gold (Boys) at Udghosh, 2014
  • Gold (Girls) at Udghosh, 2014
  • Gold (Girls) at 49th Inter IIT Sports Meet, IIT Guwahati
  • Silver (Boys) at Sangram, 2015
  • Silver (Boys) at Udghosh, 2012
  • Bronze (Girls) at 50th Inter IIT Sports Meet, IIT Bombay
