Techkriti[1] is an annual technical and entrepreneurial festival of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. It is usually organized in the month of March. The event witnesses a large gathering of students from various technical colleges all over India, who come together to participate in various competitions. Renowned personalities in the field of science and technology are invited to deliver talks and conduct workshops.

The objective of this festival is to develop interest and encourage innovation among the budding engineers.

It is usually organised during the month of March every year. This festival is organised and run completely by the students of IIT Kanpur. Every year thousands of students across the country and nearby countries come to participate in Techkriti. This festival hosts several technical competitions, workshops and talks. Several eminent personalities from across the globe have delivered their speeches in Techkriti. Every year, Techkriti comes with a new and innovative theme in order to make the sphere of science and technology bigger and bigger which can help make this world a better place to live.

There are competitive events in all fields of technology like robotics, electronics, aeromodelling, business, programming etc. Some of these competitions are based on short term implementation while others have to be done over a long period, which may be as long as 2 months.

Notable events include:

  • ECDC: Circuit design contest
  • IOPC: 24 hour Programming contest
  • RoboGames: Soccer with human controlled robots as players
  • TakeOff: Aeromodelling contest
  • Design: Designing innovative physical designs
  • IHPC: High Performance Computing
  • Stocksim: Virtual stock market simulator


Eminent personalities from around the world are invited to deliver talks on their works. Techkriti, since its inception, has witnessed professors, medalists and Nobel laureates spellbinding the audience. Notable speakers include Walter Lewin, David J. Griffiths, Jordan Soles and Richard Stallman. Apart from them, journalists and intellectuals like P. Sainath are also invited to give their views on India and the global conditions. The event also witnesses panel discussions involving eminent personalities.


Experts organise interactive workshops during the period. They familiarize the general public with the basics of the scientific stuff that they encounter during their day-to-day life. Topics like ethical hacking, Cyber forensics are seen almost every year.Often students from other colleges are also seen organizing workshops.


Companies from around the world gather to showcase their skills and topnotch products to the people. There are also a lot of entrepreneurs who come and showcase their ideas. DRDO comes every year to showcase their weapons and you can even spot some tanks! Gizmos like virtual archery kit, and slow motion helmet are seen which are experiences hard to get outside this gala.

Informals and Pro-nights

Techkriti also features informal events like computer games, card games, laser tag etc. Various sponsoring companies too put their stalls where they conduct challenge sessions.

Every night Techkriti features professional artists from Bollywood industry and foreign. Previous year 3D laser show was introduced. On the closing night one of the renowned singers from India or abroad is invited to perform and enthrall the audience.
