Antarāgni (in Hindi antar means "within" and agni means "fire") stands for 'The Fire Within'. The name of the festival was changed from Culfest to Antaragni in 1993. It began as an inter-collegiate cultural event in 1964, and now draws in over 30,000 visitors from 200 colleges in India. Antaragni is a non-profit organisation run completely by students of IIT Kanpur. It started off small, funded entirely by the Student Gymkhana of IIT Kanpur. Today the budget is almost Rs 1 crore, raised through sponsorship.

Introduction

Public Relations cell of Antaragni deals with inviting artists and celebrities from diverse fields. Various well renowned personalities are called from across the globe to enrich and give professional value to the annual cultural festival.

It deals with various professional events such as International Carnival, India Inspired, Antaragni Leadership Initiative, Director's Cut, exhibitions, workshops and professional shows. This year the Public Relations cell under Antaragni is introducing a 'literature festival' as a new dimension to the fest.

Team Structure & Hierarchy

Public Relations team is a 4-tier team which consists of heads, executives, secretaries and volunteers with the responsiblity decreasing from left to right.

Eligibility

For each tier, the members are selected through interviews conducted by the following senior tier. Interviews for heads are taken up by the previous year's Antaragni core team and Chairperson, Students' Senate. There are no restrictions on applying to any of the posts apart from the minimum CPI requirement of 6.5.

Events under PR cell

India Inspired

India Inspired potrays the intellectual face of the festival. Panel discussions based on topics of public interest related to socio-economic and political environment of India are organized.

A panel discussion held as an endeavour to encourage young minds to contemplate the issues faced by the nation is what India Inspired is all about. The discussion revolves around themes such as RTI, female infanticide and youth in politics. Famous personalities who have graced the event over the previous years include Anna Hazare, ex-C.J.I V N Khare, Magsaysay Awardee Aruna Roy and Dr. Arun Shourie.

In the year of 2013, India Inspired was a huge success mainly because of the eminent panelists – Mark Tully, Brinda Karat, S Y Qureshi, Rami Chhabra and Aravind Mohan as moderator. The event is conducted in the main auditorium witnessed by an audience of over 1000.


Antaragni Leadership Initiative

This competition cum event is a platform for budding leaders to showcase their abilities and make their voice heard. The three month long campaign serves as the perfect platform for young leaders to voice their opinions on issues which directly affect many lives in the nation.

Previous year Antaragni Leadership Initiative was conducted in association with the European Union. The incentives included a fully sponsored Europe trip to the two winners and laptops and gift vouchers for the audience. It gained a lot of popularity and gathered a huge participation from colleges across the nation.

International Carnival

This is one of the most important part of the festival which features artists from various countries and fields to perform in the festival. Antaragni makes association with various embassies for this Carnival to get different dimension in the festival.

Antaragni has association with embassies of Ireland, Egypt, Italy, USA and Finland in previous year. They had the Irish folk music band, The Bonny Men from Ireland, dance group Cleva Girls from Finland, saxophonist Gianni Denitto from italy, rock band The Flying Eyes from USA and a music group from Egypt.

Director's Cut

Director’s Cut is an event that appeals to the cinephile in all of us. Eminent artists such as Abbas Tyrewala, Piyush Mishra, Sanjay Gadhvi and Luv Ranjan have graced the event with their presence during the past and interacted with a lively audience. It involves screening of the latest movies in the presence of top casting from the respective movies followed by interactive sessions with the stars.

In 2013, the event was taken to a new level with the presence of the most popular and versatile actor of the time, Mr. Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He was here for his movie- Gangs of Wasseypur 2, which was was screened in main auidtorium before a huge crowd. The audience was left enthralled by his presence and the interaction. Also Mr. Tigmanshu Dhulia was here for his movie - Paan Singh Tomar. Paan Singh Tomar was screened in the outreach auditorium which was also packed to full capacity.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions of uncommon and extraordinary stuffs are put up including wood art, matchstick sculpture, dot painting among others. Interactive stalls like tattoo making, nail painting, pottery making and others are also a major attraction for the visitors and participants during the festival in old SAC/new SAC. Campus Junta gets a rare opportunity to explore the different kinds of art forms right at their doorstep.

Workshops

1.Conventional

Personalities from acclaimed institutions are invited to conduct workshops in the campus during the festival. Workshops for hip-hop, Salsa, Jazz dance are conducted by professionals accompanied by workshops for dramatics, oil painting and charcoal sketching among others.

2.Non Conventional

Non-conventional workshops have always enthralled the audience and the response is pretty good every year. Tattoo making workshop by RIP Tattoos, New Delhi during the festival has attracted many people. Also origami, clay modelling, wire works have been among the most exciting and popular workshops over the years.

Professional Shows

* Prima Nocte Fest gets thrown open with a grand and rejuvenating celebration called "Prima Nocte". Be it a scintillating performance by famous rock bands or a professional player's performance it has never failed to unleash the fire within on the very first day of the cultural carnival, being only a taste of greater things to be revealed. In 2013, the festival witnessed the band 'Indian Ocean' and the Irish folk music band 'The Bonny Men' performing in Prima Nocte.

* Blitzkrieg It is the most coveted event of Antaragni as every year it witnesses the grand performance of the best singers of the country.This is the high- point of the festival when an alarmingly large crowd is driven to frenzy by famous stars. This is the ultimate euphoria as tidal waves of energy sweep off everything in their path. Antaragni had Sonu Nigam for Blitzkrieg'13 and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for year 2012. Over the years, this closing night show is introducing more and more gravity in the entire festival.
