Antaragni (English: 'The Fire Within') is the annual cultural festival of IIT Kanpur, and is one of the popular college festivals in India. The festival was originally known as 'Culfest' till 1993. It is a four-day-long festival and it includes participation from several colleges of the country. It includes professional shows, competitions, amateur rock bands, Ustads and Pandits, fashion shows, Indian folk dances, and other events.
Antaragni has evolved into the biggest cultural extravaganza of Northern India. Being the most eagerly awaited event of the year, it bears witness to an eruption of the cultural flair and creative exuberance which is the hallmark of our institute. Antaragni today has firmly established itself as a brand and its visibility and getting bigger and better every year.
Being a permanent fixture in the cultural calendars of all the premier colleges of India, Antaragni's varied and multi-hued competitions are hotly contested by leading teams of these colleges. Along with mind blowing professional shows and glamorous lifestyle events, socially relevant burning issues of the day find a strong voice in the discussions and panel talks which form an integral part of the fest. Last year Antaragni, witnessed 50,000 footfalls and saw participation from over 150 colleges from all corners of India.
In this festival, professional shows, workshops and talks, competitions and many other events are organised. It includes performances by Atif Aslam, Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, Poets of the Fall, Sunidhi Chauhan and Raghu Dixit, KK, Sonu Nigam, Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar. The festival also aims to serve as a platform for the expression of youth opinion on social problems.
An Overall Championship Trophy is awarded to the college, other than IIT-Kanpur, with highest cumulative score. Championship trophies are also awarded for the best performances in individual categories of competitions such as Dance, Dramatics, English Literary Events, Films and Photography, Fine Arts, Hindi Literary Events, Musicals and Quizzing.
Antaragni is organized by the core team of the students and a faculty member. The core team structured into levels festival coordinators and the heads of events, competitions, finance, marketing, show management etc. Secretaries and volunteers help the core team to conduct events and competitions.
